HELP! I Don't Have Word!

Many students do not have Microsoft Word on their home computers. Adding software can be a very substantial expense often overlooked after spending money on buying a new computer. That leaves students using very inferior software to write reports (like Wordpad or MS-Works), often saving in incompatible formats that will not open when the student comes to school. Even worse, there usually is no way for a student to work on a powerpoint at home without the Powerpoint program, until now. There IS an alternative called Open Office.
Open Office is FREE software that duplicates the functions of the major Microsoft Office products, like Word, Excel, and Powerpoint. Did I mention it is FREE! You can get it at
OpenOffice.org
. The program is broken down into Writer (similar to Word), Calc (similar to Excel), and Impress (similar to Powerpoint), as well as some other useful tools and programs. This is PERFECT if you do not have MS Office software and don't plan on buying it.
After you download and install this software, go into the options for Writer and set it to save in WORD 97 - 2000 format automatically. Then all the items you type up will automatically open at school. Do the same for Impress -- set it to save in Powerpoint file format.
If you have questions about this software, post them here and I will try to answer them.

NOTE: For those who do not have the internet at home, I have added this free software to my folder in the Assignment share. Just open the Assignment Share, find my folder and open that, and you will see the Open Office program in the list. You can copy it to a flash drive (it is about 115 Megabytes) and then install from the flash drive at home.
